The Flying Canoe

The Flying Canoe is an interactive audio experience for families to do together that will transport them to the islands of Kiribati.

Featuring an oceanic soundscape that includes traditional Kiribati songs, families will transform their lounge room into a world of myth and wonder.

Written by me and produced by Threshold, The Flying Canoe features performances and artwork by artists from the Kiribati diaspora.

The Flying Canoe was then turned into a live / hybrid show that has been performed at Dream Big Festival in Adelaide and Federation Square. The Flying Canoe was commissioned by Arts Centre Melbourne in 2026 to be part of their education program.

The Flying Canoe comes with a full set of curriculum-aligned classroom activities for each primary year level, and features interactive video and audio tracks for a truly dynamic learning experience.

The Flying Canoe has been on quite a journey, and can be presented as:

  • An at home experience for families

  • A hybrid Version for venues and public spaces

  • In schools with curriculum aligned online resources

In every form, 'The Flying Canoe' is an interactive and embodied adventure that celebrates Kiribati culture and storytelling.

The Flying Canoe was a finalist for the Australian Game Developer Awards in 2023, Excellence in Impactful Games.

The Flying Canoe is now also available on Yoto.

The Flying Canoe was the recepient of the Australian Cultural Diplomacy Grants Program (ACDGP) administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
