My name is Marita Davies.

I am a proud Kiribati & Australian woman, a Marakei and Tabiteuea North woman.

Marakei is the women’s island. The island of my grandmother, it is where women are seen as protectors of land. Tabiteuea North is my grandfathers island. People from Tab North are full of pride and are known for always carrying a knife ‘just in case’. Use that information as you wish!

I will disclose that while I don’t always have a knife by my side at all time, I have written every day for as long as I can remember. So perhaps a pen or pencil is my weapon of choice.

I am determined to embody the strength that my ancestors have passed onto me.

I am passionate about upifting the stories and cultural knowledge of Pasifika.

Stories and the way that they are told, is how we connect. In the end, stories are all we have.

This is why I write.
